This was originally a two bedroom flat, laid out with rooms off a dark central hallway. The brief called for an open, timeless home which maximised the penetration of natural light. In the new layout the kitchen/living room faces the park to the west, while the more private functions are combined in a bed- and bathroom with windows towards the communal courtyard garden. In the living space the kitchen, laundry facilities and a large open fireplace are arranged as an expansion of the load bearing walls, leaving the rest of the space clear. The window reveals have been widened in order to let in as much light as possible, and also to maximise the views of the park and large maples outside. The bed- and bathroom is screened off with a large frosted glass wall and sliding door, providing privacy whilst allowing the morning sun to filter through into the hallway and living room.
